The entertainment world is mourning the loss of one of its most respected actors, Sir Patrick Stewart, who has died at the age of 86.

The legendary British actor, celebrated for his unforgettable performances as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise, reportedly passed away at his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

Stewart’s remarkable career was built on much more than his appearances in blockbuster movies. Before becoming an international television and film star, he established himself as a respected Shakespearean stage actor, spending 14 years with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

His portrayal of Captain Picard made him a household name, turning him into one of the most recognizable faces in science fiction. His calm authority, intelligence and memorable delivery of phrases such as “Make it so” helped make the character a television icon.

He later introduced himself to an entirely different generation of moviegoers as Professor Charles Xavier, the wise and compassionate leader of the X-Men. His performance became one of the defining elements of the popular superhero franchise.

Stewart was knighted in 2010 for his contributions to drama. Beyond his professional achievements, he was also known for supporting charitable causes, including efforts to combat domestic abuse.

He is survived by his wife, singer-songwriter Sunny Ozell, and his two children, Sophia and Daniel.
