Chiefs Sign Justin Tucker After Sexual Misconduct Allegations as Harrison Butker’s Struggles Raise Big Questions

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly added former Baltimore Ravens superstar Justin Tucker to their practice squad, giving the veteran kicker another opportunity in the NFL after a 10-game suspension tied to sexual misconduct allegations. The move comes as Harrison Butker struggles on the field, but Tucker’s return is already raising difficult questions about accountability, team priorities and the message sent to female fans.

The Kansas City Chiefs are taking a controversial gamble by bringing veteran kicker Justin Tucker back into the NFL spotlight.

According to reports published on October 28, 2026, the Chiefs have signed Tucker to their practice squad as they look for answers to their ongoing kicking problems. The move comes after Butker missed two field goals in Kansas City’s 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, adding to a difficult stretch for the usually reliable kicker.

Tucker, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished kickers of his generation, now has another opportunity to revive his professional career. However, his return is complicated by allegations that have followed him since early 2025.

Why Did the Chiefs Turn to Justin Tucker?

Tucker spent 13 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, establishing himself as one of the NFL’s most successful kickers. He earned seven Pro Bowl selections and five first-team All-Pro honors, building a reputation for delivering under pressure.

But his time in Baltimore ended in May 2025, when the Ravens released him following reports of allegations involving inappropriate sexual behavior during massage sessions.

The allegations, reported by The Baltimore Banner, involved 16 massage therapists at eight Baltimore-area spas and concerned incidents alleged to have occurred between 2012 and 2016.

Tucker has strongly denied the accusations, describing them as false. The distinction is important: the allegations are not the same as a criminal conviction, and Tucker has not been criminally charged in connection with them.

Nevertheless, the NFL investigated the matter and suspended him for the first 10 games of the 2025 season for violating its personal conduct policy. He served that suspension while a free agent.

Now, the Chiefs appear willing to give him another chance.

Harrison Butker’s Struggles May Have Opened the Door

Kansas City’s decision comes at a difficult time for Harrison Butker, who has been a key part of the franchise’s success.

Butker’s recent kicking problems have become increasingly difficult to ignore. Reports indicate that he has converted just 11 of 16 field-goal attempts in the 2026 season, a career-low success rate of 68.8% at this stage.

His missed kicks against Seattle intensified concerns about the position and may have encouraged the Chiefs to explore alternatives.

Tucker’s career record offers an obvious attraction. Across his first 13 NFL seasons, he converted approximately 89.1% of his field-goal attempts, placing him among the most accurate kickers in league history.

However, his last NFL season with Baltimore was also the worst of his career at that point. In 2024, he made 22 of 30 field-goal attempts, a success rate of 73.3%.

That means the Chiefs are not simply choosing between a struggling kicker and a proven solution. They are weighing Butker’s recent form against Tucker’s past achievements, his own performance decline and the uncertainty surrounding his return after an extended absence.

Tucker has been added to the practice squad, not automatically installed as Kansas City’s starting kicker. Butker remained on the active roster when the signing was reported, leaving open the possibility of competition rather than an immediate replacement.

The Allegations Continue to Cast a Shadow

While the football reasons behind the move are clear, Tucker’s return raises questions beyond statistics and field-goal percentages.

The allegations against him prompted widespread scrutiny when they emerged in 2025. The NFL subsequently imposed a suspension under its personal conduct policy, and the Ravens moved on from a player who had been a central figure in their special-teams unit for more than a decade.

Tucker has consistently denied wrongdoing. His position must be acknowledged alongside the accounts reported by the women who accused him.

The Chiefs’ decision to sign him does not establish that the allegations are true or false. It does, however, place the organization under renewed scrutiny over how it evaluates players whose careers have been affected by serious misconduct allegations.

For a franchise with a large national audience, the decision is likely to be debated by supporters who prioritize on-field performance and others who believe teams must consider the broader consequences of their personnel choices.

What Message Does This Send to Female Fans?

One of the most sensitive questions surrounding Tucker’s return concerns the women who follow the NFL, including female fans who expect teams to take allegations of sexual misconduct seriously.

Some supporters may see the move as a professional opportunity for a player who denies the accusations and has served the league-imposed suspension. Others may question whether a team’s need for better kicking performance should outweigh concerns about the allegations and the league’s response.

Those reactions should not be treated as universal, but the debate is understandable.

The Chiefs now face the challenge of explaining their decision while managing the immediate football problem. Their handling of the situation, including any public comments from team leadership, could influence how fans interpret the signing.

The issue is bigger than whether Tucker can make a difficult field goal. It touches on how professional sports organizations balance talent, accountability, due process and public trust.

Can Justin Tucker Still Save His NFL Career?

Tucker’s record suggests that he has the experience to compete for another opportunity. Yet his return will not be without obstacles.

He must demonstrate that he can perform consistently after missing NFL game action since the 2024 season. His final year in Baltimore raised questions about his accuracy, and the Chiefs will need evidence that he can deliver under pressure before considering a larger role.

For now, joining the practice squad gives Kansas City a chance to evaluate him without immediately removing Butker from the active roster.

If Tucker performs well in practice, he could put pressure on Butker. If he struggles, the Chiefs may have to look elsewhere for a dependable long-term answer.

Either way, the signing places both kickers under a spotlight, albeit for very different reasons.

A Football Decision With Consequences Beyond the Field

The Chiefs’ reported decision to bring in Tucker illustrates the difficult choices NFL teams face when performance concerns collide with reputational and ethical questions.

Kansas City needs reliable kicking, and Tucker has a distinguished résumé. But his history, the allegations against him, his denial of those allegations and his NFL suspension mean this is not an ordinary roster move.

For the Chiefs, the immediate question is whether Tucker can help solve their kicking problems. For fans, another question remains: how should a professional team balance the pursuit of victory with its responsibility to maintain public trust?

The answers may shape how this signing is remembered long after the next field goal is attempted.
