The Seahawks’ low blow to Travis Kelce by using Taylor Swift to mock the Chiefs
The Seattle Seahawks had plenty of reasons to celebrate after shutting down the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, but their postgame celebrations extended beyond the field.
Following their convincing 20-3 victory, the Seahawks took a playful shot at Travis Kelce by bringing his wife, Taylor Swift, into the rivalry.
Seattle’s official social media account shared an image of a friendship bracelet spelling out “Seahawks Win.” The accompanying caption was just two words: “End Game.”
For Swift’s fans, the reference was immediately recognizable. “End Game” is a track from the singer’s 2017 album reputation, and the bracelet itself recalled the colorful accessories that became a familiar sight during her Eras Tour.
The post was more than a celebration of Seattle’s latest victory. It also drew on one of the most well-known details from the beginning of Swift and Kelce’s relationship, making the Chiefs tight end part of the joke even though the singer had no role in the game.
The timing made the message particularly pointed. Kansas City had entered the matchup unbeaten, with Patrick Mahomes and his teammates hoping to maintain their strong start.
Instead, Seattle produced a dominant defensive display, leaving the Chiefs with their first defeat of the campaign and giving the Seahawks an opportunity to celebrate at their opponents’ expense.
While the social media post was relatively subtle, its meaning was difficult to miss for anyone familiar with Swift and Kelce’s story.
The friendship bracelet that connected the Seahawks’ joke to Kelce
The reference goes back to July 2023, when Kelce attended one of Swift’s Eras Tour performances at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs’ home venue.
The tight end had hoped to meet the singer and give her a friendship bracelet featuring his number, but he was unable to make contact with her after the show.
Kelce subsequently discussed the unsuccessful attempt on the New Heights podcast, which he hosts with his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.
“I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs she sings,” Kelce explained at the time.
He also revealed the thinking behind the bracelet.
“If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets and I had received a bunch of them, but I wanted to give Taylor Swift with my number on it,” said Kelce.
The initial attempt did not work, but the story became an important part of the couple’s relationship.
Swift and Kelce began dating later in 2023, eventually becoming one of the most high-profile couples in American entertainment and sport. Their relationship has regularly drawn attention during NFL broadcasts, with Swift’s appearances at Chiefs games becoming a major talking point.
The Seahawks’ decision to use a bracelet therefore connected their victory to a personal story that Chiefs supporters and Swift’s fanbase already knew well.
Seattle’s post also arrived after a performance that gave the franchise plenty of sporting reasons to boast.
The Seahawks held Kansas City to just three points and 213 total yards, preventing Mahomes from finding the rhythm that has made him one of the NFL’s most successful quarterbacks.
The Chiefs’ three-point total was their lowest in a game started by Mahomes since Week 7 of the 2021 season, according to ESPN Research. The result ended their unbeaten run and left the offense facing questions about its inability to generate scoring opportunities.
The game itself was therefore already a significant statement from Seattle. The friendship-bracelet post added a pop-culture twist, transforming the result into a moment designed to attract attention well beyond the usual NFL audience.
Not everyone was necessarily going to appreciate the joke. Some fans viewed the reference as harmless sporting banter, while others questioned why Swift was being drawn into a result involving her husband’s team when she was not responsible for what happened on the field.
Ultimately, the Seahawks achieved what they wanted on the field by handing Kansas City its first loss of the season. Their “End Game” caption ensured that the victory also generated conversation online, with Kelce and Swift becoming part of the postgame story.
For the Chiefs, the more immediate concern will be recovering from a disappointing performance.
For Seattle, however, the result came with an additional victory lap: a pointed social media message that used a familiar Taylor Swift reference to make sure the defeat stung just a little more.
